According to the local tradition, the church was built in the time of King Marko, but most likely the church was built in the second half of the 14th century, in the period between Maricka (1371) and the Battle of Kosovo (1389).

Basically, the church is built in the shape of a developed triple sheet, with an unusually high octagonal dome, which rests on four square pillars through pendants. The church waс build from lime blocks, hewn stone, bricks and plaster. On the east side there is a three-sided altar apse with a bay window. . The church resembles the churches of Mount Athos, and the very architecture and frescoes indicate a rich donation of the so far unknown founder.

In the middle of the 17th century, that is, in 1630/31, a chancel was built on the western side, which was built of crushed stone, and in the same period, the fresco painting was performed in it.

According to the preserved inscription above the western entrance to the nave, the church's frescoes date from 1591, and the founder was presbyter Nikola, at the time of the monastery's abbot Stefan. The painters who painted the church fresco are assumed to have come from and been educated in the centers of the south because of their Church-Greek and Slavic inscriptions.

At the top of the dome is painted Christ Pantokrator, Old Testament saints between the windows and the evangelists of the pandatifs. In the under-dome area, the Great Holidays are painted, Christ's miracles and parables occupy a dominant place.

Apart from the standard representations, the fresco painting in the Kučevič monastery has rare and interesting frescoes, unusual for Macedonia and the central Balkans, such as the finding of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, the establishment of the cult of icons in Byzantium, representations of Judas, etc.

In the vestibule, on the eastern wall, the "Terrible Judgment" dominates, where Alexander the Great is also on the side of the sinners. On the western wall, the "Essene Lineage" is represented, that is, the biblical genealogy of the family tree of Christ.
