Church of St. Bogorodica Hospital

The Church was built in the period from 1365-67 by Jacob, abbot of the church of St. Panteleimon, Clement's Monastery of Plaoshnik. The original church was single-nave, built of stone, brick and mortar, thirty years later the west side was built with crushed stone and mortar, and in the 19th century the porch on the south side was also built.
The oldest preserved fresco painting originates from the 14th century, from which the compositions Adoration of the Sacrifice, Ascension and Annunciation, representations of St. Basil the Great and St. John Chrysostom in the apsidal part, the representations of Dimitria, George and Nestor and the northern wall and the representation of the Daisy next to the iconostasis itself. The fresco painting was painted in 1834, but this painting was removed during conservation work in 1959/60, and is now placed in the porch of the church.
The walnut iconostasis with representations of stylized plants, fruits and birds originates from 1833, and was made by Nikola Darkovski Karadžović.
In 1864, Dimitar Krstev Dichov, known as Dicho Zograf, painted several icons for the church.
According to legends, the church of St. Bogorica and the church of St. Nikola, received the epithet Hospitals, because in the Middle Ages they were used as a quarantine during an epidemic. While in St. Nikola, the sick men were placed in St. Virgin Mary were housed the sick women. Also, during one baptism, the newborn died, during one wedding, the bride, and with a decree from 1694 found in the Ohrid Institute and Museum, it is forbidden for any bishop who comes to Ohrid to perform any service in the churches of St. Bogorodica Hospital and in the neighboring St. Nikola Hospital.
