Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Monastery - Poreče Monastery
v. Gorni Manastirec, Municipality of Makedonski Brod
According to tradition, the monastery was built by the Serbian king Milutin in 1284, was burned by the Ottomans, most likely in 1689, and was rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century, i.e. in 1846. During conservation work, it was established that there are two painting phases, a newer from the XIX century and an older one that is dated from the XI to the XII century. In recent years, the monastery lodgings have been completely renovated.
The church dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is basically an elongated one-nave building with dimensions of 16 x 6 meters with a semicircular apse on the eastern side and a semicircular vault with a gable roof with entrances on the western and southern sides. It is built of local gray stone and slaked lime.
In the nave of the church are painted the Mother of God Oranta who is worshiped by two angels, the liturgical service.
In the first zone on the south side, the Deisos is painted, depicting St. Mother of God, Jesus Christ sitting on a throne, St. John the Baptist next to whom St. is painted and presented frontally St. Nikola. Hermits, holy warriors are also painted in the first row and on the northern wall the painting is almost completely destroyed.
Above the first zone is a painted belt of saints in medallions which is partially preserved.
In the third zone, the cycle of the Great Feasts and most probably scenes from Christ's sufferings are painted.
On the west side is painted the Terrible judgment.
