In the basis the church is a three-aisled elongated basilica whose naves are separated by two rows of three pillars. The pillars are connected to each other and to the surrounding walls by arches, thus dividing the whole space into twelve travails. Each travail is covered with a separate dome and thus a twelve-domed solution is obtained. Five domes are carried on high octagonal drums and are arranged in the shape of a Greek cross, and the other seven are blind domes that partially or do not protrude above the roof surface. The nave on the south and west sides is surrounded by porches. It is assumed that a porch was planned on the north side, but was never built, probably due to the small distance between the church and the rock on the north side. There are three apses on the east side, of which the middle one is seven-sided and the side ones are five-sided.

The excavations carried out in 1977 determined the existence of a building that dates back to the XI-XII century. The church was rebuilt in the 14th century on the old foundations, first suffered from fire, and in 1585 was partially destroyed by an earthquake. The church was rebuilt at the end of the 16th and the first half of the 17th century following the building work of the previous period. The last interventions were performed on the dome and the roof in the 90s of the last century.

The iconostasis is three-tiered, shaped simply, with wooden elements slightly profiled at the edges. The large cross and the final wreath of the iconostasis are also carved.
