The first zone is filled with hermit saints, while the second zone is filled with the composition "The Last Judgment" and scenes from the life of Adam and Eve. These frescoes are canned and retouched.
The frescoes in the large semicircle of the dome are from the XIX century and are the work of the Dicho zograf. The other frescoes on the west side of the church, in the smaller half-nave, were made in the same XIX century, but by a much weaker painter.
The iconostasis was made between 1830 and 1840, by the famous masters Petre Filipovski and Makarie Frckovski. Contrary to the church canons, the mentioned masters did not miss here either, as well as the iconostasis in the church of St. Spas in Skopje, to present their characters in carving. The iconostasis according to its construction is divided into six horizontal fields. The base is composed of rectangular fields filled with ornaments from flora and fauna.

The third level is divided into three horizontal friezes in which the first is symmetrically arranged angels, the second is with bunches and branches of vines, and the third is decorated with garlands of acanthus leaves. Above them are two rows of icons, the first of which illustrates the feasts, and the second row represents the apostles. The upper part of the iconostasis is the acratoria.

Based on the monastery monument inscribed in 1833, the monastery was founded in 1021 by the monk John, and in the 16th century the monastery was demolished by the Ottomans. The monastery was rebuilt in 1743 by the hieromonk Hilarion. This is confirmed by archeological excavations when it was established that today's church build in around 1800 was built on the foundations of two older single-nave churches.
The iconostasis in the monastery church of St. Jovan Bigorski is an extraordinary artistic achievement of the master Petre Filipovski. The way of processing the iconostasis, the richness of the figures and the compositions with motifs from the Old and the New Testament, place this iconostasis among the best achievements of the carving in Macedonia.
