St. John the Theologian Kaneo

Although no data has been preserved that could determine the time of construction and fresco painting, but based on the architectural and iconographic features, the church can be dated to the end of the 13th century.
The church is rectangular with an inscribed cross, a three-sided apse and an octagonal dome. It is built of crushed stone in the lower part, and in the upper part with a combination of limestone and brick, which achieved a high ceramic decoration on the facade.
Given that the church was abandoned for a long period during the Ottoman period, it contributed to the destruction of the fresco painting, which, although it is fragmentarily preserved from an iconographic point of view, although there is a particularly emphasized modification of Komnenian elements, it mainly follows Komnenian traditions and provides significant data about medieval painting in Macedonia.
