The most representative and monumental public building of arch. site. Vardarski rid represents the Stoa (buildings were for public use; here merchants sold their goods, artists exhibited their works, and religious gatherings were also held here.)
The southern half of the Stoa is an open porch that communicated directly with the space to the south of the Stoa. The central, dividing wall, along the middle of the Stoa, was also the supporting wall of the two-bay roof structure.
To the south of the Stoa, in front of its southern side, there was a free space without buildings from that time, which says that it was undoubtedly part of a wider square - agora.

In addition to the discovered coins that date this building to the 2nd century BC. in one of the rooms, various items of bronze, marble, bone, terracotta, etc., dating from different times, from the 7th to the 2nd century BC, were discovered. Hence this building is called the Collector's House
.
The building has 6 rooms, divided into residential and economic part. The residential part was probably on two floors, and the economic part was centrally open.

The building was damaged in a fire.

Arch. site Vardarski rid

Gevgelija

The archaeological site Vardarski rid represents a multi-leyer settlement from the Neolithic, the Late Bronze Age, the Iron Age and the Ancient period. This ancient settlement is presumed to be the ancient city of Gortinia. The ancient settlement, which began to develop in the Iron Age, became an economically powerful and significant settlement in the wider region in the lower reaches of the Vardar River in the Archaic period.

Although the settlement suffered in a natural disaster at the beginning of the 5th century, at the end of the 5th century BC, a new settlement was built in the same area, with a new concept of buildings and a new organization of the city. This way of urbanization continued in the 4th century BC, and this is evident through the discovery of the architectural complexes of buildings, workshops and shops. In the 3rd century BC we see a new settlement, with a new concept of living, different from the previous layers.

The city prospered in both the Classical and Hellenistic periods, which was the result of the stabilization of life during the reigns of Philip II and Alexander III and their successors to the throne. The development of city life, trade, the wealth of the kingdom and later the wealth of the empire, enabled the city to live according to the standards of other Macedonian cities in this period.

Life stopped on the site in the 1st century BC as a result of the Roman conquests, significantly later than in other cities in the region, but the end was definitive.

Vardarski Rid is the central area in Gevgelija, which was continuously inhabited for more than 1000 years, from the end of the Bronze Age (XIII century BC) until the arrival of the Romans (II-I century BC). Through six successive settlements, starting from a small prehistoric settlement, during the 5th and 4th century BC. the ancient Macedonian city - ancient Gortinia - grew up. The findings of six of the researched sectors represent the remains of the ancient Macedonian city that existed (V-I century BC).
